Drawings & Dreams

The BFA Solo Gallery at Stan State Art Space is excited to present Drawings & Dreams, an exhibition by graduating senior and Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate Cesar Flores. The exhibit will be on display from December 3–7, 2024, with an opening reception on Tuesday, December 3, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Gallery hours are from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free, and free on-street parking is available.

Flores describes his work:

"This collection of drawings is from a series made between 2022 to 2023 in Fresno, CA. After spending several years avoiding making art, I enrolled in art classes at Fresno City College, where lessons on drawing the human figure, by Nanete Maki-Dearson, motivated me to explore narrative themes and to look at making art from a different perspective. Sight measuring was a key part to the class and I felt inspired to pursue the idea of using measuring lines to actively guide and engage with the viewer. I found the process of quick gesturing, of starting and erasing new drawings to be liberating and encouraging in approaching making new artwork. I also appreciated how raw charcoal on newsprint captures the emotional charge of mark making while having a rough draft appearance. Continuing to draw on the idea of perspective, my most recent work explores multiple points of view by incorporating measuring lines and abstract shapes into narrative scenes of grief, separation and heartache."
