Patssi Valdez will discuss her long-term creative trajectory as an influential and groundbreaking Chicana artist. Foregrounded in the socio-political environment of the 1960s in Los Angeles, including Chicano/a youth activism that she participated in, Valdez will speak about how this context informs her artwork. She will share visual slides of her artistic trajectory, which not only includes her performance work with the Chicano collective she co-founded called ASCO but also innovative photography, installations, and paintings. Valdez will also discuss current projects, such as being featured in Frieze magazine and the upcoming film about ASCO that Gael Garcia and Diego Luna are producing.
