One of the most beloved features on Stanislaus State’s Turlock campus is the reflecting pond at the center of University Circle. Officially named the Dr. Marvalene Hughes University Reflecting Pond, it is the heart of a complex web of storage ponds, pipes and pumps that collects stormwater and landscape irrigation runoff for reuse campuswide.
Stan State's recycling program has resulted in a 78% diversion from the landfill. Faculty and staff are provided with a single recycling bin for their office in addition to a small trash container. Most buildings have at least one recycling station and larger buildings have collection areas on each floor in addition to three-stream recycling bins in dining service venues to encourage recycling of plastic beverage bottles, metal beverage cans, and glass bottles.
