Tutoring Policies
Fall and Spring Terms
Appointments
Tutoring appointments are 50 minutes long. Appointments can be scheduled up to 48 hours in advance. Choose between one-time appointments or weekly recurring appointments for the semester. Students may book a maximum of 2 appointments per week or 1 appointments per day with the same tutor for the same subject. Requests for additional appointments may be granted through a request process, and granted based on tutor availability.
Cancellations
We understand that plans change! Here’s what to know about canceling an appointment. You have up to 1 hour prior to your appointment to cancel your appointment. You can cancel up to 2 appointments in a row per subject each semester. You’re allowed a total of 4 cancellations per semester. After the 4th cancellation, your tutoring in that subject will be paused, and your remaining appointments will be canceled. To start scheduling again, you’ll need to submit a Request for Reinstatement and receive approval.
No-Show
If you miss an appointment or don’t cancel before it starts, it counts as a No-Show. You’re allowed one grace No-Show each semester. After your second No-Show any weekly recurring appointments for that subject may be canceled (if the No-Shows happen in the same series). You’ll be blocked from booking new appointments for the rest of the semester. To start scheduling again, you’ll need to submit a Request for Reinstatement and receive approval.
Dropped Status and Reinstatement
If you are dropped from tutoring, you will not be able to book additional appointments for that subject until your access is restored. This does not affect your status with the Writing Center or Supplemental Instruction. To request reinstatement, submit the Request for Reinstatement Form. This form allows you to ask for your scheduling access to be reactivated. If you have questions, email us at learningcommons@csustan.edu.
Requesting Additional Appointments
Tutoring Request for Additional Appointments
If you’ve reached your maximum number of tutoring appointments, you can submit a Request for Additional Appointment Form. Submitting the form does not guarantee approval, you’ll need to wait for a confirmation email. Requests made less than 48 hours before the desired appointment time may not be approved, but we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Confidentiality
The Learning Commons will not release student information such as name, phone number, or address to anyone except the student's tutor. Matters discussed in tutoring sessions are to remain between the peer tutor and student.
