Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP)

Overview

The Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) supports doctoral students pursuing faculty careers through CSU faculty mentorship, professional development opportunities, and financial support. Selected applicants are designated as CDIP Fellows and work closely with a CSU faculty mentor to complement their doctoral studies with experiences and activities designed to prepare them for a rewarding career in the CSU or at institutions similarly committed to student success.

Application Submission

The application for the 2027–28 CDIP cohort is expected to open in October 2026. Applications will be submitted online through Smartsheet. The application link will be posted here once available.

Program Benefits

• CSU Faculty Mentorship

  • Fellows are paired with a tenured or tenure-track CSU faculty mentor who provides guidance and insight into the role of a teacher-scholar and what it means to pursue a faculty career within the CSU.

• Professional Development

  • CDIP Fellows have access to professional development opportunities designed to prepare them for an academic career in the CSU.

• Monthly Webinars

  • Webinars featuring CSU faculty who share practical insights on the teacher-scholar model, balancing teaching and research, and navigating promotion and tenure.

• Skill-Focused Workshops

  • Workshops covering essential topics such as writing teaching statements and cover letters, developing effective teaching practices and preparing for the academic job market.

Internal Grants and Awards

Once accepted into the program, CDIP Fellows have access to internal grants and awards that support their academic and professional development.

• Doctoral Education Support Grant

  • Provides up to $2,500 per year. Provides funding for academic and professional development expenses, such as professional organization memberships, academic journal subscriptions, and minor research materials.

• Conference Travel Award

  • Awards up to $1,500, twice per year. Supports conference-related expenses, including organization membership, registration, lodging, and airfare. CSU faculty mentors may also be eligible for up to $1,500 in conference travel support when presenting with their CDIP Fellow.

• Dissertation Awards

  • Awards up to $5,000, one-time. Provides support to CDIP Fellows in the final year of their dissertation writing stage.

Awards are subject to available funding and are awarded on a competitive basis.

• Optional Loan

  • Fellows may also have access to an optional loan that may be forgiven if the CDIP Fellow obtains an instructional faculty position within the CSU system.
