
Dighton, who has set her goal on eventually earning a Ph.D. and becoming a history professor, was one of 50 Phi Kappa Phi members in the nation selected for the award out of 1,000 applicants.
After earning her bachelor’s degree at UC Davis, Dighton worked in costume design for six years and retail management for seven years before deciding to join the graduate school program at CSU Stanislaus in pursuit of her history teaching goal.
The monetary awards, based on applications and statements about the students’ academic pursuits, help fund their post-graduate studies and eventual career development. Students who are achieving high marks academically qualify for scholarly distinction and membership in Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline honor society.
