California State University, Stanislaus’, College of the Arts, Department of Theatre production of Dennis Kelly’s “Debris” has been selected for participation in the 2011 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival XLIII, Region XIII. The Regional Festival, encompassing colleges and universities in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Hawaii, Guam, and American Samoa, attracted 70 entries of which 10 are invited to perform at the KCACTF Regional Festival, February 8-12, in Los Angeles, CA, at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.

The KCACTF is a national theatre program with funding and administrative support from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The Regional Festival provides numerous workshops, seminars, audition opportunities, scholarships, and awards for students and faculty. The Regional Festival is also a showcase for the finest work produced in university and college theatre programs. This year, students in the cast and crew will also have the opportunity to interact with professionals from the Los Angeles area through reviews, critiques, and interviews.

This year’s invitation marks the sixth time since 1972 that CSU Stanislaus has been recognized at the Regional Festival. In February, 21 members of the production cast and crew will travel to Los Angeles, for the showcase performance. The production is under the direction of Jere O’Donnell of the Department of Theatre.

“It is a great honor for the University and the Theatre Department,” says O’Donnell, “As a director I have entered three shows, and all three have been invited to the festival which is a lot of work, reconfiguring and traveling with the show, but it is really a tremendous honor – not only for me but also for the students who will be performing in front of their peers from across the region.”

The Regional Festival performances of “Debris” will be Friday, February 11, at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in Los Angeles, CA.
