Drawing high praise for its commitment to provide programs that graduate qualified nurses in a time of serious need, the growing California State University, Stanislaus Nursing Department has received a valued stamp of endorsement at the national level.
As the University makes plans to expand its pre-licensure four-year Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree program next spring, it does so with a 10-year accreditation renewal granted on May 18 by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The reaccreditation comes with strong praise after extensive evaluations that included a campus visit by a panel of CCNE experts in fall 2006. The CSU Stanislaus Nursing Department also offers a bachelor's degree program for registered nurses and plans to offer a Master's Degree in Nursing starting in 2008. A Family Nurse Practitioner Master's Degree and certificate program is already offered through a partnership with Sonoma State.

CSU Stanislaus is one of 12 California State University campuses that will share an estimated $3.6 million in additional funding provided by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for the 2007-08 academic year to help increase the number of nursing degree graduates. California faces a shortfall of 12,000 full-time registered nurses in seven years unless state universities and community colleges admit more nursing students, according to a recent report by State Legislative Analyst Elizabeth G. Hill.
CSU Stanislaus plans to admit 30 more students to its four-year pre-licensure degree program annually, starting in the spring 2008 semester, for a total of 70 students. More than 200 qualified applicants apply for the openings in the officially impacted program, a strong indication that there is demand for more growth in the future. The CSU Stanislaus Nursing Department faculty will also be expanded starting in the fall, with three new positions scheduled to be filled to meet the growth.
The CCNE reaccreditation team applauded the Department's numerous partnerships with regional health care organizations and the University's three nursing laboratory facilities -- health assessment, skills, and a state-of-the art simulation lab featuring computerized mannequins that accommodate a variety of training scenarios.
