Dr. Sarah Chan, Faculty Solo Piano Recital: "Portraits of France and Spain: Piano Music from Impressionism and National Romanticism (1880-1935) and Music of Frédéric Chopin"
Dr. Chan’s recital coincides with the 2026 launch of her CD album and published historical research, "Portraits of France and Spain: Piano Music from Impressionism and National Romanticism to the Avant-Garde (1880-1960)."
Explore artistic insights and compositional innovations in the piano music of the turn of the 20th century. French and Spanish composers, whose encounters of musical, artistic and cultural interchange in 1880-1935 captured and inspired rich experience and imagination, paving the way for the birth of new vision, soundscapes, styles and expressivities impacting the art music of French Impressionism and Spanish National Romanticism. The exploration into palettes of sound and expressive dimensions continues with a feature on the music of Frédéric Chopin, beloved Romantic-era Polish-French composer, as presented through his Barcarolle, selected etudes and Ballade No. 3.
