Speechify at Stan State

What is Speechify?

Speechify Premium is now available free-of-charge for students, staff and faculty! Speechify is a read-aloud tool and AI assistant that helps with reading and studying. With Speechify, you can:

  • Read documents aloud (including Word doc, PDF, and EPUB) with hundreds of enhanced reading voices
  • Generate quizzes, podcasts, and summaries of your documents
  • Access your documents from your phone, tablet or computer - your documents are stored in your cloud-based Speechify library
  • Create MP3s, dictate text, and more!

How to Create a CSU Speechify Account 

  1. Click here to create and activate your account: Create a Speechify CSU Account 
  1. On the “Create Your Account” page, type in your csustan.edu email address. Then, create a password for your account. When you are done, select “Continue.” Note: do not click “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple"
  1. When the next screen loads, click the “Activate” button (you may need to click it twice)

After that, your account will be activated, and you will have access to Speechify Premium. You can log into Speechify from their website at app.speechify.com, using your csustan.edu email. You can log into the Speechify apps on your phone or tablet as well.

Speechify Chrome Extension 

Once you’ve activated your CSU Speechify account, you can also add Speechify for Chrome. Speechify for Chrome is an extension that allows you to read web content on your Chrome browser, and use speech-to-text on the web.  

  1. Follow this link to the Chrome Store: Speechify for Google Chrome 
  2. Click “Add to Chrome” 
  3. Speechify will open a tab with information about the extension’s features, and how to pin the extension

Now you can use Speechify on the web! 

Speechify Voice AI Desktop App

With the Speechify desktop app, you can read-aloud and dictate text using keyboard shortcuts. To install the desktop app:

  1. Follow this link to the Speechify Downloads page: Download Speechify
  2. Click the "Download for macOS" or "Download for Windows," depending on the device you are using.
  3. Run the installation file and follow the install instructions.
