Union Pacific Railroad to revise previous track maintenance

If you come to campus via Highway 99 we encourage you to use either the Fulkerth or Taylor road exits to access campus Dec. 12-15 to avoid the detour and delays due to the complete closure of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks at Monte Vista Avenue. The roadway is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15. The closure may coincide with finals for some students, and drivers are encouraged to arrange their travel time and route accordingly.

After performing routine track leveling maintenance at the Monte Vista Road crossing in September, and subsequent follow-up work in November, Union Pacific Railroad has identified deficiencies with the substrate beneath the track requiring immediate correction. They will be conducting a full reconstruction of the crossing, which will include replacing the rail bed, rails and supporting infrastructure as well as all new concrete panels. They will also be completing any necessary repaving to match the roadbed with the new crossing panels to provide for a smooth transition.

The Monte Vista exit off Hwy. 99 will be open, but drivers attempting to cross Golden State Boulevard will be led through a detour. Signage will be posted to assist drivers. Motorists are advised to use either the Taylor Road or Fulkerth Road exits off Highway 99 or be prepared to detour around the construction area using Countryside Drive.
