Working professionals who want to complete their four-year college degrees during the economic downturn will have the opportunity to do so in Tracy starting in January next year, when California State University, Stanislaus starts its Tracy-based Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program.
Coordinated through the University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Office of Extended Education, the program features courses in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Geography, and Political Science.
“This program is an excellent opportunity for working professionals with previous college credit who want to complete their bachelor’s degree,” CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani said. “We are committed to providing a program that is convenient and gives people the advantage of putting a four-year degree from a highly regarded program on their resumes."
The program will feature an accelerated degree completion format that includes six-week class sessions and self-paced instruction and assignments that can be completed online via the Internet. The interdisciplinary cohort program in social sciences will initially offer degrees with the theme “Diversity and Globalization.”
“The flexibility of the Tracy program, and the relevant themes that the courses will address, are based on the needs and interests of working adults from our region,” College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Dr. Carolyn Stefanco said.
“Those with college degrees are going to be in a better position for standing out in today’s job market where openings are scarce and application numbers are high,” said Michael Terry Barnhart, Interim Director of University Extended Education.
Classes will be conducted Wednesdays starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Tracy Transit Center, located at 500 N. Central Avenue just minutes away from the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) train station.
Program information sessions are scheduled for six consecutive Monday evenings on November 9, 16, 23, and 30, and December 7 and 14 at Tracy City Hall, 333 Civic Center Plaza.
