The Writing Center works collaboratively with undergraduates and graduate students to develop and craft their writing. Usually, tutors first address larger issues, such as focus, organization, and development; then, tutors assist writers with sentence-level issues, such as grammar, punctuation, and diction. We welcome questions about any part of the reading, writing, and research process.
When you make your appointment, you may choose a session that is one-time only or weekly, which allows you to meet with the same tutor on the same day and time each week. You can sign up from 2 days to 10 days in advance on StanTutor.
- Offered fall & spring terms
Same-day tutoring is offered online or in person on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must schedule available 25-minute sessions online through Stan Tutor.
- Phone and in-person scheduling are no longer available
- Please schedule an appointment on StanTutor
You may request one session per day, up to two per week; appointments will be cancelled and reassigned if you arrive in L221 or sign onto Zoom more than 5 minutes after your session begins. Writing tutors may provide feedback and share strategies for each part of the writing process.
Research Workshops provide students with help on the research and writing process in the same space! Students can get support from both a librarian and writing tutors as they work on research and writing assignments.
We are located on the second floor of the library in L260 and available Mondays through Tuesdays from 3 - 4 p.m.
Students and tutors have access to links, handouts, and other interactive resources to get help with a variety of writing issues and concerns. Our Writer's Online Resource Directory (W.O.R.D.) can be accessed during a tutoring session in the Writing Center or on your personal device.
We encourage students enrolled in WP courses to schedule weekly appointments with a tutor early in the term. Tutors will work alongside you to develop your disciplinary-specific reading, research, and writing abilities.
The following tutors have office hours and you may schedule them via StanTutor:
- Catherine Azevedo on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Jason Silveira on Thursdays from 12 to 1 p.m.
- Alanna Taylor on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m.
Writing Center tutors are undergraduate and graduate students from across disciplines. When selecting an appointment time in StanTutor, the tutor's name appears in the top right corner of the appointment option. Select the name to read their bio and learn more about who you will be collaborating with!
The Faculty Resources page provides information for classes incorporating one hour of workshops in the Writing Center (ENGL 1006 & ESL courses). Including a referral form and guidance on providing feedback on student writing.
