Leading Education for Educational Leadership
CSU Stanislaus’s Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership, with specializations in P-12 and Community College Education, is positioned to have a major impact on the education community throughout the six county region of the northern San Joaquin Valley. Preparing outstanding leaders to improve teaching and learning in schools and colleges, the program is committed to developing tomorrow’s change agents for complex educational organizations in multicultural settings.
Emphasizing models of instruction, research, and practice, the program provides an opportunity for candidates to work in learning communities as educators, leaders, policy makers, and policy advocates.
The Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership is fully approved by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Congratulations
Michael McCandless, an English Professor at Merced College and a CSU Stanislaus doctoral student in Educational Leadership, recently defended his dissertation entitled "The Effects of Fluctuations in Enrollment Fees on Student Retention at California Community Colleges." Michael also participated in both the Fall Research Colloquium and the Spring Research Competition.

Meet the Director
Dr. McKenzie comes to CSU Stanislaus from Texas A&M University, where she was an associate professor in the department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development and affiliated faculty in Women and Gender Studies. She received her Ph.D. in educational administration from The University of Texas in Austin. Her research focuses on school improvement, instructional leadership, equity and excellence in education, and qualitative methodologies. Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. McKenzie was a public educator. During her nearly thirty years in public education, Dr. McKenzie was a classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, assistant principal, principal, and Deputy Director of the University of Texas/Austin Independent School District Leadership Academy. Maintaining her commitment to practice and practitioners, Dr. McKenzie works extensively in public schools that serve diverse student populations, working with teachers and leaders in elementary and secondary schools as well as district leaders and school boards. In addition to her work in the United States, she was a consultant to Qatar University, developing their master’s program in educational administration. In addition to her work in schools, Dr. McKenzie has published numerous articles in major journals, along with book chapters, and books. Her newest book, co-authored with Dr. Linda Skrla, is Using Equity Audits in the Classroom to Reach and Teach all Students.
Asked about coming to CSU Stanislaus Dr. McKenzie said, “This is the perfect place for me to be. The Valley is richly diverse and has untapped talent at the student, teacher, and leader levels. It is here where I can finish my career and put the capstone on my goal of improving schools and schooling for literally ALL students.”
