The Cal State Stanislaus golf team won its first California Collegiate Athletic Association title since 2001, rallying from behind with a big final round showing on Tuesday, March 24.

Four Warrior players shot under par on the final day of the tournament and finished ahead of runnerup CSU San Bernardino and third place Chico State at Hunter Ranch Golf Course near Paso Robles. Coach Jim Hanny, in his 34th year as team leader, was named Coach of the Year and medalist Erick Justesen, Matt Hollinsead, and Andy Moren were named to the All-Tournament Team.

"The team played well and made great things happen, especially down the stretch when it really counted," Hanny said. "They performed very well on a tough golf course. These players have worked hard and are ready to go. I think they have a good chance to do well in the post-season tournaments."

CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani praised the Warrior golfers for their hard work and determination in coming from behind on the last day to claim the tournament title.

"A big round of applause and congratulations are in order for these student athletes and Coach Jim Hanny," President Shirvani said. "They have once again demonstrated that the CSU Stanislaus golf program is highly deserving of its reputation for being a consistent winner as one of the best in the country."

The Warrior golfers will embark on their bid for the NCAA Division II national championship when they compete in the NCAA West/Northwest Super Regional in Lakewood, Colo., May 7-9. The top two teams in that tournament will advance to the May 22-24 nationals in Michigan.
