
• Master’s student Brook Altamirano of Social Work received first place in the graduate division for her presentation, “Health-related Quality of Life: Exploring Pediatric Populations Diagnosed with Unilateral Hearing Loss.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Robin Ringstad.
• Master’s student Monique Preciado of Educational Technology received second place for her presentation “Vocabulary Development and the Use of a Technology Software Package.” Her faculty mentor is Dr. Dawn Poole.

Each year during the California State University Student Research Competition students compete for cash awards by presenting orally before a panel of judges and audience. Student presentations and written summaries are competitively evaluated on clarity of purpose, appropriateness of methodology, interpretation of results, value of the research or creative activity, ability to articulate the research or creative activity, organization of the material presented, and the ability to handle questions from the judges and audience.
