California State University, Stanislaus will host the first observatory night of the semester Thursday in the Naraghi Observatory.
The event – called “Our neighborhood in the Universe” – is free and open to the public. It will focus on observing three astronomical objects: a full moon, Venus, Jupiter and other objects in the solar system.
Observation will begin after sundown, at about 7 p.m. The observatory is located on the roof of the Naraghi Hall, on the south side of campus. Guests should first register for the event in the lobby of Naraghi Hall.
Directions: From University Way/Monte Vista Avenue turn onto University Circle. Take your first right. Park in lot 11, near Naraghi Hall.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Guests should bring warm clothing as the observatory is unheated.

Friday, Nov. 12* – “Deep Dark Sky” – People are invited to gaze at the Andromeda Galaxy, Jupiter and possibly the ring nebula, the lagoon nebula and star clusters.
Tuesday, Dec. 21 – “Lunar Eclipse” – People are invited to see the lunar eclipse, which will start at 9:30pm and become a total eclipse a little after midnight.
