Dimenika Miranda - "Fingers", Gouache on Paper, 2024

The BFA Gallery at Stan State Art Space is proud to announce the Solo exhibition A Self Divided by Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate Dimeneka Miranda from April 8--12, 2025. An opening reception will occur Tuesday, April 8, from 4:00--6:00 p.m.

The work in the exhibition showcases her exploration into the distortion and editing of bodily forms in a two-dimensional format, using materials like gouache, charcoal, pastels, and colored pencils on paper. When altering forms, she adds, subtracts, and multiplies elements across the picture plane in a manner that reshapes and warps the familiar forms. In this exploration, she also utilizes darker imagery as well as colors and textures that are reminiscent of flesh and other bodily aspects. The goal of her work is to viscerally depict scenes of uncertainty, inner turmoil, and duplicity in a way that intensifies these themes into a viewable and bodily form.

Dimenika Miranda is a Mexican American artist from the Merced County area, and this Spring 2025 semester will be her second semester within the BFA program. Her past and current work has relied heavily on portrait work, with her past images sticking heavily to realism. However, with her recent work, she has been experimenting with altering forms in different ways that serves as a way to challenge and reconsider her approach to her own art.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 noon--5:00 p.m., and admission is free, with free on-street parking available. The gallery is located at 226 N. First Street in downtown Turlock.
