The BFA gallery at Stan State Art Space is thrilled to announce the solo exhibition Sanctified and Sovereign by Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate Melissa Parga from May 29-June 27, 2025. The gallery is located at 226 N. First Street in downtown Turlock, and admission is free, with free on-street parking available. An opening reception will take place Thursday, June 12, from 6:00p.m.
Parga describes her work: "My work explores the intersection of identity and societal constructs such as body norms, consumer culture, and patriarchal standards. Through the use of materials like gelatin and metal, I reflect on the transformation of the self under social pressure, challenging ideals of perfection and conformity. By engaging with these materials, I aim to spark a conversation about fatphobia and body-altering culture, while reclaiming bodily autonomy in an ever-changing world. Ultimately, my practice invites viewers to reflect on how societal expectations shape our identities and how we can resist and reimagine those pressures."
