Four Faces by Zehlanna Day

The BFA Solo Gallery at Stan State Art Space is thrilled to announce the BFA Solo Exhibition Four Faces, by Bachelor of Fine Arts Zehlanna Day from October 9-17. An opening reception will take place October 16 from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. with an artist talk at 6:30 p.m.

My relationship to change has developed tremendously throughout my life, largely thanks to my experiences as a transgender individual. Four Faces as an exhibition of my work highlights the four aspects that I categorize these changes into: bodily, politically, religiously, and relationshiply. Printmaking as my primary medium has best expressed these changes as it is a violent, labor intensive, and transformative medium. Although these changes I display are often horrific I also wish to highlight that despite the difficulties, change is a fundamental and beautiful function of life.

Zehlanna Day is a graphic designer and artist with her Bachelor's of Fine Arts from CSU Stanislaus, currently preparing for graduate school. Zehlanna’s art highlights the changes she witnesses in herself and others throughout her time as a transgender individual. These changes take form in four ways: body, politics, religion, and personal relationships. Although these changes are often seen as horrific, Zehlanna seeks to highlight that despite the difficulties, change is a fundamental and beautiful function of life.
