Hernandez describes her work:  "I am Elizabeth Hernandez, an artist who creates illustrations depicting couples in intimate settings. My work explores issues pertaining to a disconnect that many couples can experience as they work to connect and co-exist with their partner as well as challenges the idea of the 'picture perfect' couple and instead showcases the tension and vulnerability that exists in these connections. Color, texture, and breaking of the frame are aspects that are important in my work as these aspects allow me to create a narrative that allows me to express the importance of these interactions.

I grew up as a child of divorce and, as a result, have always had a skewed and unsure perspective on how relationships work due to media being one of my only examples. As a result, I refused to allow myself to have a relationship until, suddenly, my partner came into my life, and I had to rework myself to fully and confidently open myself to him. Co-existing with someone can be difficult, but not impossible which is why the purpose of my work is to create conversation, as well as share how normal these tense, difficult situations can be when trying to co-exist with someone you love."
