If a student is sick or has an emergency, she/he needs to call the Writing Center at 667-3642 to cancel her/his appointment. Students who do not cancel their appointments before the start of their scheduled sessions will be dropped from their standing tutoring appointment. A student may cancel before the scheduled appointment time two times before being dropped from tutoring. On a case-by-case basis, the Writing Center Director may reinstate a student after he/she has been dropped.
Students may complete an application to meet with the same tutor each week. After completing the application, students will be scheduled for an appointment at a specified day and time. The weekly appointment will stand as long as the student wishes to be tutored unless the student fails to show up to a tutoring session without cancelling before the session start time.
No appointment is necessary during Same Day hours. Call 667-3642 or stop by the center on or after 9:30 a.m. on the day you need tutoring to sign in for an available 25-minute session. Same Day hours on a first-come, first-served basis. In Fall 2019, same-day writing tutoring will be held in LX14.
The Writing Center offers online tutoring for those who cannot make it to the Turlock campus during our regular hours. You will need to register the first time you request an online appointment.
The Writing Center will not release student information such as name, phone number, or address to anyone except the student’s tutor, the Writing Center Director, or Tutoring Center Director. Matters discussed in tutoring sessions are to remain between the tutor and writer.
Proofreading & Editing
The Writing Center does not edit papers. Instead, our tutors work with each writer to locate, identify, and correct her/his own errors at the appropriate stage of the writing process.
As part of ESL 1000,1005, and 2000 students are required to attend a weekly tutoring session. Tutors will mark student attendance and correspond with the course instructor regarding student progress and attendance.
