Cancellations

If a student is sick or has an emergency, she/he needs to call the Writing Center to cancel her/his appointment. The Writing Center number is 667-3465. Students who do not cancel their appointments before the start of their scheduled session will be dropped from their standing tutoring appointment. Those students may come in and reapply for another tutor or time. However, after failing to cancel two times in one semester, the student will be referred to walk in hours.

Appointments

Students must come to the Writing Center to complete an application. After completing the application, students will be scheduled for a weekly appointment at a specified time. The weekly appointment will stand as long as the student wishes to be tutored, unless the student fails to show up to a tutoring session without cancelling at before the session start time.

Walk In

No appointment is necessary during walk in hours. Tutors are available during scheduled walk in hours on a first-come, first-served basis. Most sessions last about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how many students are waiting. Tutors will not edit essays.

Online Tutoring

The Writing Center is piloting online tutoring during the 07-08 Academic Year. To use online tutoring, please go to the Student Information page and click on the “Online Tutoring” link.

Confidentiality

The Writing Center will not release student information such as name, phone number, or address to anyone except the student’s tutor, the Writing Center Director, or Tutoring Center Director. Matters discussed in tutoring sessions are to remain between the tutor and writer.

Proofreading & Editing

The Writing Center will not edit student papers. Instead, our tutors work with each writer to locate, identify, and correct her/his own errors at the appropriate stage of the writing process.
