With a small splash appropriate to its primary use as an educational facility, the long-awaited refurbished Aquatic Facility at Stan State opened for use on March 15.
Adjacent to Fitzpatrick Arena, the Aquatic Facility mainly will be used for classroom activities, but three open swim periods are offered weekdays through June 30 to students, faculty, staff and community members over the age of 18 who purchase an access pass.
“This new facility creates the opportunity for us to offer training in scuba, kayak and other water activities, plus we’ll be able to host water polo tournaments and swim meets as well as swim classes,” said Dan Houlden, director of campus recreation, who is overseeing the open-use hours for the Aquatic Facility. “In the future we plan on having additional programming.”
Currently, the facility will offer open swim hours, weekdays only, from 6-7:30 a.m., noon-1 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. through June 30. Summer hours have yet to be determined. All users, including students, faculty and staff, need to register and purchase a pool pass. Community members not affiliated with Stan State also will be able to use the pool during these hours by going through the registration process.
The Aquatic Facility will be made available to community groups through the University’s facilities rental process, giving schools, swim clubs and youth groups access to the pool outside of the regular hours. For rental information, refer to the campus recreation facilities and reservations webpage.
