Janice L. Herring, a full-time lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology at Stanislaus State, has been elected as the West Regional Vice President for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi — the  nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Herring will work with Phi Kappa Phi chapter officers and members to strengthen and enhance chapters in the West region. She will serve a two-year term.

"I am looking forward to meeting with other regional vice presidents and the Society staff to collaborate on ideas for strengthening and maintaining healthy chapters," Herring said. "I take great joy in the Society's emphasis on recognizing academic excellence of students, faculty, and others through annual initiation ceremonies as well as the myriad of grants and awards programs."

Herring was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 1984 as an undergraduate student at Sacramento State, and has been a leader in the Society since serving as a charter member for the Stanislaus State chapter in 1999.
