About SMAS

Where is SMAS?

Summer Music at Stanislaus is located on the beautiful campus of California State University, Stanislaus. This picturesque location, noted for its scenic lakes and waterfalls, is the perfect location in which to make music, build friendships and have fun! Campers from all sessions will complete their weeklong experience with performances by the band, orchestra, choir (senior session only), and piano ensembles in the stunning Snider Recital Hall. Campers are housed on campus in air-conditioned rooms in the University’s housing complex under the supervision of camp staff.

Who is SMAS for?

  • Open to all band, choir (senior camp only), orchestra and piano 
(please see information below) 

  • Junior Camp – must have completed Grades 5-8 

  • Senior Camp – must have completed Grades 9-12

*Students who have completed 8th grade and would like to attend Senior 
Camp must submit letter of recommendation from their teacher as well as an audio recording for consideration.

What happens at SMAS?

Students will participate in concert band, choir (senior camp only), and string orchestra
as major performing ensembles while pianists will receive daily individual lessons and instruc- tion in a master class format. Students will also have the opportunity to perform in small chamber ensemble, engage in master classes/clinics taught by the Stan State music faculty, and participate in a variety of elective classes aimed at developing musical, theoretical, technological, and creative skills. During recreation and evening activity hours, students will have the opportunity to engage in structured activities, performances, and events.
