Assertiveness Training

Definition of Assertion:

  1. Allows people to express honest feelings comfortably.
  2. To be direct and straightforward.
  3. To exercise personal rights without denying the rights of others and without
  4. experiencing undue anxiety and guilt.

The Non-Assertive Personality

  1. Fear of displeasing others.
  2. Fear of rejection and retaliation.
  3. Wants to be liked so much that they are willing to sacrifice their own self-respect
  4. Won't speak up because they are afraid of being wrong or embarrassing themselves.
  5. May not be able to identify their own strengths.
  6. Develop 100 reasons for not acting on their desires.
  7. Communicates indirectly.
  8. Dishonest communication.
  9. Unclear concept of social reality.
  10. Worries about worrying.
  11. Learned wrong way behavior.
  12. Have difficulty being assertive with their own children.
  13. May feel anxious because they don't stand up for themselves.
  14. Expend a lot of energy avoiding conflicts, manipulating others & denying responsibility.
