The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing offers a supplementary authorization in Computer Concepts and Applications. This authorization allows holders of a Single Subject, Standard Secondary, or Special Secondary Teaching Credential to teach computer-based classes at any grade level (preschool, kindergarten, grades 1-12, and classes organized primarily for adults). This authorization allows holders of a Multiple Subject or Standard Elementary Teaching Credential to teach computer-based classes in grades 9 and below. In order to obtain this supplementary authorization, it is necessary to complete 20 semester units (or 10 upper division semester units) of non-remedial coursework that covers the following three areas: Software Evaluation and Selection, Hardware Operation and Functions, and Classroom Uses of Computers. At least one course must address each of those areas. The balance of the semester units may be in any course dealing with computer concepts and applications. A grade of "C" or higher is required in every course used to meet this requirement.
Coursework toward this supplementary authorization can be completed at California State University, Stanislaus. EDIT 4170, EDMA 5210, EDMA 5220  are options offered through the department of Advanced Studies in Education, totalling 8 units. Additional EDMA coursework at the 5000-level may be taken. In addition, 3000- and 4000-level courses are offered through Computer Science and Cognitive Studies.
