Welcome to Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 282, and welcome to a new academic year! Whether you are an active member, a returning alumnus or alumna, or a prospective member, I hope these pages illustrate the joy, hard work, and camaraderie of the Stanislaus State membership!
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, founded in 1897, is the nation’s oldest multi-disciplinary honor society. We draw our members and our pride from scholars across the entire university, in every major. Prospective members may wish to consult our FAQ page or contact any of the officers of Chapter 282, for more information.
Stanislaus State’s Chapter 282 was chartered in 1999. Since then, we’ve inducted over 1100 members into the society. We’ve sent a delegate to every national convention, hosted a Cluster Meeting for West Regional university chapters, and designated executive members to Partnering for Success training and student vice presidents to their counterpart Student Leadership training. We’ve received special recognition from the Society on three different occasions, including the Chapter of Merit (2014) and Chapter of Excellence (2015) Awards. Most recently, former Chapter President Janice Herring was named Regional VP of the Society at the national biennial in 2016.
Our chapter sponsors signature annual activities, such as a book drive for local children in conjunction with the Residence Village on campus and their Halloween gala. We reach out to the community through service activities with United Samaritan Foundation. We represent the University at an annual Preview Day open house. In the week culminating with our spring initiation ceremonies, we host a variety of Phi Kappa Phi Week activities – our 2015 lineup was so successful it was featured in the Society’s quarterly magazine, Phi Kappa Phi Forum.
Our chapter offers undergraduate and graduate student scholarships, and supports members in their own applications toward awards offered by the national Office, such as the Love of Learning Awards, Literacy Grants, Study Abroad Grants, and Graduate Fellowships. Through it all, we let the society motto guide us, “Let the love of learning rule humanity!”
To find out more about how you can become involved with Phi Kappa Phi, browse these pages, contact me or any of the chapter members, or drop into any of our activities.
