Nationally, new first-time students have been interested in having their parents involved in the university experience, and parents have engaged enthusiastically in programs available to them. Many campuses have responded to this trend by creating more parent programs. The University established a Parents Program in 2005. The program supports a Parents Association, an electronic newsletter for friends and family of CSU Stanislaus students, e-mail listserve for parents, hotline, and family weekend. The purpose of our Parents Program is to involve parents in the life of the campus and to enhance the success of their students. Chief among our goals is helping students to develop the skills and habits to be successful learners. To this end, we want students to achieve their degrees in a timely manner, and we aim to provide developmental experiences along the way to help them gain independence and insight for continued success. The program provides a bridge between the University and parents and serves as a valuable avenue of outreach and communication.
