OIT Learning Services

Our Mission

Learning Services provides access and technical support for televised and online courses taken by students throughout the University’s six-county service area – Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne – and beyond.

Today's students have different needs than their parents did when they were going to school. Many are older, have their own families, and work 30 – 40 hours a week. By taking courses via live television or online, students can save thousands of miles of driving each term – plus the time and expense connected with commuting. California State University, Stanislaus is the only four-year public institution in a six-county area of 10,000 square miles, and serves over 1.25 million people. The area is rural and students often live and work far from the Turlock campus. Students appreciate the convenience of television and web courses while not having to drive to the Turlock campus.

Educational Broadcast Courses

Instructional television courses are produced by Learning Services for transmission to remote sites to regularly enrolled students at the CSU Stanislaus Stockton Campus.New Browser or website icon Television courses are identified as such in the Class ScheduleNew Browser or website icon.

Online Courses

Learning Services offers primary support for the ever-increasing number of courses offered fully online or as "hybrid" courses (where the course content is divided between online and in-person sessions). Fully online courses are identified in the Class ScheduleNew Browser or website icon. Support for faculty comes through one-on-one meetings, scheduled workshops, and teachonline.csusstan.edu, which contains information for instructors of all levels on a variety of technological and pedagogical topics.

Faculty Multimedia Services

Created to serve the instructional technology needs of faculty, our multimedia services are a resource of ideas and technical assistance in the pursuit of systematic design, development, and the application of multimedia, computing, and traditional media into curriculum and teaching. In addition to our ability to process materials for you, Learning Services also staffs a small lab in the Faculty Development Center that features laptops with instructional design software as well as other equipment that can be used by faculty on their projects. Call us at 667-3347 to discuss an instructional project.

Blackboard Learning Management System

Blackboard Course Sites is a web-based course management system that supports student and instructor interaction and collaboration through the posting and sharing of documents, external links to web resources, and threaded discussion boards along with other useful communication tools. In collaboration with other departments in OIT, Learning Services manages the creation of Blackboard sites and offers a range of faculty training on best practices for using it.
