There are several ways to change your campus computer account password.NOTE 1: Please review the password policies requirements above prior to resetting your password.NOTE 2: If you have chosen to remember your password on other devices (i.e. your smart phone, an Internet browser, etc.) it is recommended that you update those remembered passwords as soon as possible after you update your campus account password. See below for instructions on updating some common "remembered" passwords:
Method 1 (Recommended for MOST users) While logged onto almost any Windows computer on campus, press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" and choose "Change a password..." as shown below (depending on your version of Windows the screen may look slightly different). If you don't have a Windows computer on campus you can visit any of our open computer labs (Colab in the Library, L145, or N201) or the computer kiosk at the Help Desk (Library building L150), log on, and follow this procedure.Method 2 (employees w/ csustan.edu e-mail) Log onto campus web mail at mail.csustan.edu and follow the instructions below.
If it has been greater than a year since you last changed your password your password will expire and you will be prompted to change your password the next time you log onto a campus computer. If you try to use an expired password on a web based system (such as my.csustan.edu or BlackBoard) your logon will fail and you should take actions to reset your password.
If you have chosen to remember your password on other devices (i.e. your smart phone, an Internet browser, etc.) it is recommended that you update those remembered passwords as soon as possible after you update your campus computer account password. See below for instructions on updating some common "remembered" passwords:
Your account is set to lock after 5 incorrect logon attempts. If that happens your account will be locked for 10 minutes at which time you can try it again. If you mistakenly lock your account please wait 10-15 minutes and try it again with the correct password.
If you don't know or have forgotten your password for your campus computer account, you must personally visit the Help Desk (Library building room 150) and show a photo ID to have it reset.NOTE: The Help Desk has no way to look up your password. For security reasons we cannot change your password over the phone; you must come in-person with a photo ID for the Help Desk to change your password.
Most systems on campus use your campus computer account to "authenticate" who you are. This includes logging onto most computers on campus as well as logging onto BlackBoard, My.CSUStan.edu, campus e-mail, campus wireless, etc.
Campus computer accounts are created automatically from the Common Management System (i.e. "PeopleSoft" or "CMS") the day after Human Resources creates your record as an employee. The OIT Help Desk will contact you once your account is ready; you will either need to personally come to the Help Desk (Library building room 150) to retrieve your account and password or a letter will be mailed to the address in CMS with the necessary information.
