Dr. John Weddle

Music Education

Dr. John Weddle teaches instrumental music at California State University, Stanislaus, where he heads the music education and chamber music programs. Dr. Weddle holds a DMA in clarinet performance and music education, plus the performer’s certificate from the University of Oregon. He has taught in the public schools of Oregon and has conducted college bands and orchestras in Oregon and California. John was most recently the principal conductor of the Santa Maria Symphony Orchestra in that city.

His conducting study has included working with Frederick Fennell, Donald Hunsberger, John Paynter, Robert Vagner, Wayne Bennett, H. Robert Reynolds, Craig Kirchoff, Jerry Junkin, and Thomas Lee, as well as having been selected to participate in two Carnegie Hall Conductors Workshops in New York led by Pierre Boulez and Daniel Barenboim. He has been active as a soloist, guest conductor and adjudicator in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and California. As a clarinet soloist, his playing has been praised by such well-known American composers as Norman Dello Joio and Alan Hovhannes. In June of 2002, he had his New York solo recital debut in Carnegie Hall.
