Whenever possible, Housing staff attempts to accommodate roommate preferences and room placement requests. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to give everyone their first preference. Room placement is subject to availability, as well as several other factors.
To facilitate positive roommate relationships and open communication, Resident Assistants (RAs) will meet with roommates and prepare a Roommate Agreement during the first few weeks of the semester. Roommate agreements will be kept on file with the Coordinator for Resident Community Engagement (CRCE).
In the event that conflicts arise, the Resident Assistant is available to assist residents, but they are not expected to solve community living problems for residents. Residents are expected to communicate openly and honestly with one another and make a concerted effort to resolve their own issues before going to the Resident Assistant.
If the residents and RA cannot resolve the situation, the residents will be referred to the Coordinator for Resident Community Engagement to discuss further options. If a resolution cannot be reached, students can submit a Room Change Request by submitting the form below.
Room changes are subject to approval from the Coordinator for Resident Community Engagement. Room change requests will be processed in the order in which they were received (in other words, “first come, first served”).*
Housing staff will contact a resident after a room change request has been submitted. The Coordinator for Resident Community Engagement will meet with the student(s) requesting a room change. If approved, Housing staff will provide the resident with a timeline and instructions for completing the room change.**
*No room or roommate changes may occur during the first two weeks of each semester.
**Housing staff will make every effort to fulfill a resident’s request; however, given that room changes are subject to availability, there is no guarantee that we will be able to honor a room change request.
