Graduate Writing Residency Program

The purpose of the Graduate Writing Residency Program is to help students make substantial progress toward completion of their master's or doctoral thesis/project/dissertation; increase knowledge about required elements of a thesis/project/dissertation appropriate to academic discipline; improve research/scholarly writing skills; and increase confidence in research/scholarly writing skills.

Graduate Writing Support Drop-in Sessions

A professor from the English department provides writing support for graduate students seeking to improve their writing. The focus of each session is on one targeted writing issue—such as mechanics, sentence structure, or paragraph organization—that can be addressed in a 20-minute period.

Preparing for Timed Essay Tests: Graduate Entrance Exam Writing Skills Workshop

This workshop is designed for students interested in applying for graduate programs that require entrance exams such as the GRE, CBEST, CSET, GMAT, or LSAT. The purpose of this workshop is to help students prepare for the writing skills portion of these exams. The workshop includes the following three components: 1) a brief overview of common elements of various writing exam requirements; 2) information about strategies for successful writing for these timed graduate writing exams; and 3) an opportunity to practice writing a response to a sample writing exam prompt, with feedback for improvement.
