Determining Financial Aid Need or Eligibility
The financial aid application you submit allows a processor for the U.S. Department of Education to apply a standard formula to the information you have provided and determine you eligibility for financial aid. Contribution (EFC) number, the amount you and/or your family are expected to contribute toward your education.
When we receive all application materials required for your file, a counselor reviews the application in a process called "need analysis". In need analysis, income an set information from both the student and the parent is reviewed, an the EFC is subtracted from the costs of attendance for one academic year. The remainder is the amount of financial need/eligibility for financial assistance.
The Cost of Education
The cost of education is the amount the University estimates that the student will spend to attend college for the academic year. The cost of education usually includes tuition fee, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous personal expenses. Room and board will vary depending on which CSU campus the student attends and whether or not the student lives with parents, in a University residence hall, or off-campus.
Students should not eliminate any college under consideration as a result of their estimate. Rather, keep all college options open and discuss any financing concerns directly with college financial aid officials. Please note, if the student is not a resident of the state of California, the amounts of the grants and/or loans may be affected.
