Event Details

Critical LGBT+ Perspectives in Latin America and the Caribbean: Western LGBT+ culture is often promoted in the Global South in imperial ways. As a result, neoliberal and nationalist agendas often incorporate LGBT+ discourses and identities as a political or marketing strategy to appear more progressive, inclusive, and "modern" while excluding marginalized LGBT+ perspectives and grassroots mobilization. Thus, this event will focus on critical LGBT+ perspectives in Latin America and the Caribbean by featuring speakers who will discuss their experiences, art, and activism. This workshop will be facilitated mostly in Spanish.

Co-sponsored by the WCCC & The Ethnic Studies program.
