The campus community and public are invited to hear the reading of the names of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty who have been invited to join the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Society President and Lecturer Janice Herring will welcome students, and member and Professor John Mayer will read the names. Society officers, student vice presidents and other faculty members will attend, wearing their blue Phi Kappa Phi medallions. A saxophone quartet fanfare will signal the start of the brief ceremony.

Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and encourages superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. Admission to the honor society is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval in accordance with the bylaws of both the chapter and the national society. The top 7.5 percent of juniors and top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students are eligible for initiation, with GPA, units completed and citizenship also being taken into account.
