Dr. Ricky Gutiérrez-Maldonado was born and raised in Bishop, CA by Mexican immigrant parents from Chihuahua, Mexico. As a first-generation student,he completed his B.A. in Sociology and minor in Chicana/o Latina/o Studies at Sacramento State. He received his M.Ed. and Ph.D. from the Department of Education Culture & Society at the University of Utah. He works at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA as the program manager overseeing the Empowerment Resource Center and Pride Center. He also co-directs a Chicanx/Latinx youth social justice project in Stockton called Nopal. As a lecturer for Ethnic Studies at Stanislaus State he teaches courses on Racial Inequities in Education & Racial/Ethnic Experiences. His scholarly background is in Critical Youth Studies, Queer of Color Critique, and Education.
