Dr. Shawna Young is in her 11th year at CSU Stanislaus. She holds a joint appointment as Professor in the Doctoral Program and in the Department of Kinesiology. She is currently the Founding Director of the Center for Excellence in Graduate Education at California State University, funded by a $2,759,419 U.S. Department of Education grant. Professor Young received a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction at Boise State University, a master’s in Exercise and Sport Studies at Boise State University, and a bachelor’s in Physical Education at CSU Stanislaus. Dr. Young has spent 5 years teaching/coaching in K-12 schools. Her multifaceted professional appointments are reflected in her diverse research agenda, encompassing areas such as practicing culturally responsive pedagogy and supporting language learners in physical education, assessment practices in physical education, and the impact of support programs on graduate student retention and degree completion.
