Nomination Information

Stanislaus State is pleased to offer three different awards that will recognize and honor faculty, staff, students and administrators who have demonstrated a clear commitment to anti-racism, social justice, equity, and/or inclusion

Nomination Guidelines

Complete a letter of nomination that identifies the nominee and the specific award. In the letter:

  • Explain why you believe the nominee should receive the award by responding to the criteria outlined in the award’s elements.
  • Keep in mind that the award's reviewers are relying on the information you provide to choose the most deserving recipient.
  • The nomination letter must be no more than three pages in length (additional appendices and exhibits are welcome). In it, briefly:
    • Describe the programs, activities or accomplishments that qualify the nominee for this award.
    • Describe how the nominee’s efforts have made a direct impact on the campus, our local communities, or the nominee's field of study. 

Nomination Submission

Nominations can be submitted by faculty, staff, students, administrators, and University departments. Self-nominations are also accepted.

Recognition Celebrations & Ceremony

  • Awardees will receive a stipend of $1600 and a plaque.
  • The awardee will be invited to share their work with the University community at an open lecture.

Timeline

  • 2022/2023 nominations deadline:
    March 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. 
  • Announcements of awardees will occur at the end of each spring term. 
  • The award ceremony will be held at beginning of the next fall semester. 

About the Awards & Criteria

This award honors faculty, staff, or students who have conducted innovative and outstanding research, scholarship, or creative activities that advance efforts in anti-racism, social justice, equity, or inclusion at Stanislaus State, in the person's field of study, or in our broader community. The award is meant to highlight and elevate work in anti-racism, social justice, equity, and inclusion; provide recognition of the value of that work; and showcase critical scholarship, pedagogy, and community engagement.

Eligibility: This award is available to faculty, staff, and students

The elements of outstanding research, scholarship, and creative activities include:

  • Significant contributions that advance knowledge in areas relating to anti-racism, social justice, equity, or inclusion.
  • Engagement with innovative research enhances our understanding of race, class, gender, culture, and other identities affecting access and opportunity in our society.
  • Transparency of the methods and scope of the research included in the project.
  • Uniqueness in addressing problems or approaches that support new or novel bodies of research.
  • Outcomes and implications that help stimulate evidence-based directions that support a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Examples include:

  • Research regarding issues in anti-racist practices, social justice, equity, or inclusion.
  • Collaborative project(s) between researchers and practitioners that have had sustained observable effects within the contexts of practice.
  • Participatory action research projects that are collaborative between researchers on our campus and the public
  • Interdisciplinary research on issues in social justice, equity, and inclusion.
  • Scholarship that has a significant impact on campus diversity, equity, or inclusion.

This award recognizes individuals who are leaders through influence and example, inspiring those around them, and who have made significant contributions to the University.

Eligibility: This award is available to students, staff, faculty, or administrators.

The elements of outstanding leadership and campus impact include:

  • A demonstration of visionary and insightful leadership that confronts and resolves inequities through strategic decision-making, allocation of resources, and establishment of priorities.
  • Research and data-informed practices that support equity, diversity, and inclusion goals.
  • Leadership practices above and beyond routine expectations required of the nominee’s position and responsibilities contribute to transformative change.
  • Work that has transcended organizational boundaries and fostered cooperation and collaboration between the University and its constituents to better serve the campus community.

Examples include:

  • Individuals who have demonstrated a consistent pattern of commitment to the recruitment, retention, and promotion of individuals from underrepresented populations.
  • Individuals who have addressed key areas of diversity and inclusion such as recruitment, retention, campus/department climate, clinical practice, or community outreach.
  • Initiatives have taken steps toward fostering diversity in the workplace with programs that maximize the potential of all people.
  • The creation of partnerships between managers and staff to resolve challenges impacted by equity and inclusion.
  • Promoting diversity in workplace education; and/or improving anti-racist and cultural competency through educational initiatives.
  • Development and evaluation of programming with high scalable potential to advance campus goals toward equity, anti-racism, and social justice within the Stanislaus State community.
  • The use of institutional data or the collection of new data to unpack issues of inequity around student enrollment, persistence, engagement, and course and degree completion patterns.
