Update: February 25, 2021
Over the last year, the custodial department has taken additional measures to help combat COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The current disinfectant (Virex II 256) used throughout the University is a product that is identified to combat COVID-19 by the Center for Biocide Chemistries (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). For this disinfectant to be effective, a dwell time of at least 10 minutes is needed. So basically, let the product sit and dry on its own. For reference, below are a couple of links regarding this product.
It is important that highly touched surfaces are addressed. In addition to routine tasks, Custodial staff is providing additional disinfecting of the following highly touched surfaces:
- Door handles
- Hand railings
- Elevator call buttons
- Light switches
- Classroom desks
- Drinking fountains
Also, ensuring hand soap and hand sanitizer dispensers are full at all times. Along with reminding staff to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which include, but not limited to the following:
- Safety glasses, goggles, face shields
- Safety shoes
- Face mask, if needed
With face-to-face classes being canceled, we have been providing a deep disinfecting of all classrooms, hallways, and lobbies.
Even though hand sanitizers have been installed across campus, the first line of defense is to ensure hands are being properly washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before completely drying.
- When using hand sanitizer, rub hands and let evaporate on its own.
- Coughing/sneezing into a tissue (if available) or elbow is encouraged.
- Encourage staff to stay home if they are sick.
We are currently using GERM-X Foam Hand Sanitizer. Fast-acting GERM-X has a 99.99% formula claim in one single dose.
At this point, there have been 78 dispensers installed across campus. Follow this link for a detailed floor plan and a campus map of all hand sanitizer locations. Locations of these dispensers are primarily in public and academic spaces (hallways, lobbies, and classrooms).
The University has purchased ten (10) foggers/blowers to be used to combat viruses, such as COVID-19. These devices are from GenEon Technologies. The addition of these devices to our tool bag has helped the department become more efficient in covering spaces such as classrooms quicker, frequently, and thoroughly.
The University has moved forward with the purchase and installation of wall mounted high capacity disinfecting wipes. Specific locations will be identified to install these dispensers (primarily will be classrooms/labs).
