Connecting to a website

You will need to create a Website Connection the first time you use Contribute or after a re-install.

To create a website connection - Windows:

  1. Start Contribute
  2. Select Edit > My Connections [View Image]
  3. The My Connections dialog box appears. The options in this dialog box let you create and manage your Contribute connections. [View Image]
  4. Click Create.
  5. The Connection Wizard appears. This wizard or assistant guides you through setting up a new website connection.
  6. Click Next.
  7. From the What do you want to connect to pop-up menu, select Website.
  8. In the What is the web address (URL) of your website field, enter the website you want to connect to. If necessary, click the Browse button and browse to the website.
  9. Click Next.
  10. From the How do you connect to your web server pop-up menu, select your connection service, FTP.
  11. Once you are selected FTP, enter the FTP server name, user name, and password. [View Image]
  12. Click Next.
  13. Enter your name, and email address.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Select Writer.
  16. Click Next.
  17. On the Summary screen, review the connection settings to verify that they're correct and click Done to complete the connection.

To create a website connection - MAC:

  1. Start Contribute
  2. Contribute > My Connections. [View Image]
  3. The My Connections dialog box appears. The options in this dialog box let you create and manage your Contribute connections. [View Image]
  4. Click Create.
  5. The Connection Assistant appears. This wizard or assistant guides you through setting up a new website connection.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. From the What do you want to connect to pop-up menu, select Website.
  8. In the What is the web address (URL) of your website field, enter the website you want to connect to. If necessary, click the Browse button and browse to the website.
  9. Click Continue.
  10. From the How do you connect to your web server pop-up menu, select your connection service, FTP.
  11. Once you are selected FTP, enter the FTP server name, user name, and password. [View Image]
  12. Click Continue.
  13. Enter your name, and email address.
  14. Click Continue.
  15. Select Writer.
  16. Click Continue.
  17. On the Summary screen, review the connection settings to verify that they're correct and click Finish (Macintosh) to complete the connection.

Contribute creates a connection to the website.

After Contribute has successfully created a connection to the website, the Connection Wizard or Connection Assistant closes, and the main page of the website appears in the Contribute browser.
