Body Composition

Body Composition refers to the percentage of fat mass as opposed to lean body mass, which consists of water, bone, muscular tissue, and other non-fat related tissue (Ratamass, 2012, p. 12). Developing a healthy body composition involves minimizing fat mass while increasing or maintaining lean body tissue (Ratamass, 2012, p. 12). Excessive body fat percentage is related to obesity which increases the risk of certain diseases and other health complications.
