Successful Remediation Committee

Successful Remediation Committee

Identifying the needs of students requiring remediation and responding to remediation policy and program issues are very important factors in student success for a significant number of students. Approximately half of all entering freshmen require some form of remediation, either in English or mathematics (or both) in order to meet the CSU standards. The campus made steady improvement in successfully remediating students in one year, beginning with Fall 2001. The committee worked collaboratively to assess contributing factors and implement recommendations. Recruitment, admissions, orientation, advising, and enrollment processes were scrutinized and improved. In addition to these important changes, the Mathematics Task Force reviewed the course series and created a new program designed to meet identified needs of the student body. A Campus Plan for Remediation has been developed.
