Spring, 2013 - Call for Lesson Proposals

 

This year??s Digitally Enhanced Classroom Project (DECP) focuses on two specific areas of instructional technology that requires internet usage along with a computer, laptop, or smart phone device. As part of the proposal, you are required to integrate one of the technological tools below in addition to any other technological tools you find effective.    

Google Docs:  The first technological area participants can consider in their lesson proposal is Google Docs.  This is a free web-based office suite offered by Google within its Google Drive service, and users only need to have a free Gmail account to access it.  It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Using Google Docs, users can access and manipulate documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and forms which can be used in the classroom as a pedagogical strategy.  Documents can be shared, opened, and edited by multiple users simultaneously.  If you do a quick search on Google Docs, various tutorials can be found online, and if you want to learn more about this technology, a video can be found here:  http://www.youtube.com/user/docs

The Flipped Classroom: The second technological area participants can consider in their lesson proposal is more of a teaching strategy that requires teachers and students to use classroom time differently than what has traditionally been done.  The premise of a flipped classroom is simple - a flipped classroom flips, or reverses, traditional teaching methods. Traditionally, the teacher talks about a topic at school and assigns homework that reinforces that day's material. In a flipped classroom, the instruction is delivered online, outside of class, which can be accessed through a computer, tablet, or Smartphone device that is connected to the internet. The instruction that??s online can be text, sound bites, or videos that are recorded by the teacher or an online resource like Khan Academy or YouTube.  Some flipped models include communicating with classmates and the teacher via online discussions. Then, class time is spent doing what ordinarily may have been assigned as homework. Class time may also be spent doing exercises, projects, discussions, or other interactive activities that illustrate the concept.

You MUST submit your lesson plan template to Dr. Daniel Soodjinda at csustan.decp@gmail.com by April 10th, 2013.  Finalists will be announced April 15th

To submit a proposal you must first download the attached lesson plan template and complete the template in its entirety.  Make sure to be as specific as possible when explaining how your lesson will be carried out with the use of technology.  Once completed, email the completed lesson plan template to csustan.decp@gmail.com by April 10th, 2013.  Lesson plans will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Innovative uses of technology
  • Integration of either Google Docs or the Flipped Classroom Model
  • Adherence to the lesson plan template and all of its requirements
  • Alignment between the standards, learning objectives, lesson plan, and assessments
