Stanislaus State’s College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has been awarded a $5,000 “2017-2018 Humanities For All Quick Grant” for the University’s project entitled “Native Voices in the Central Valley.”

The grant was secured via a competition offered by California Humanities, a non-profit that promotes the humanities in California in order to help create what the organization calls “a state of open mind.” Grants are awarded to projects that give expression to the extraordinary variety of histories and experiences of California’s places and people to ensure that the stories can be shared widely.

The grant will allow the University to sponsor two performances by Native Voices, a theatre company dedicated to producing original works by Native Americans, Alaska Natives and First Nations playwrights. The events are planned for Sept. 20 at the Prospect Theater Project in Modesto and Sept. 21 at the Mainstage Theatre on the Stan State campus.
