Eric Broadwater
Professor Broadwater is the Department of Theatre's resident Scenic Designer,
who comes to CSU Stanislaus from teaching at Northwest School of the Arts in
Charlotte, NC where he was head of the Design/Tech area for the theatre dept.
His courses at CSU Stanislaus include: Stagecraft II, Fundamentals of Scenic
Design, Children's Theatre, Introduction to Theatre, and American
Theatre.
Professor Broadwater has been painting and designing
professionally for more than 10 years in theatre, television and film, and has
worked all over the country for local and regional theaters, such as: Plano Rep,
TX., Pennsylvania Center Stage, PA., and the Tony Award-winning Oregon
Shakespeare Festival.
He earned his BFA in Scenic Design from Southern
Oregon University and his MFA in Scenic Design from Penn State. Since his
arrival at CSU Stanislaus, in addition to his numerous designs for the
Department of Theatre, he has also been commissioned to work for local
performing arts organizations like Townsend Opera Players in Modesto, an
opportunity that he has used to connect our technical theatre students to those
organizations. Recently, Professor Broadwater was commissioned to design the set
for the Chicago premier of Michael Hollinger’s OPUS with the Redtwist
Theatre Co. in Chicago and world premiere of Michael John LaChiusa's Sukie
& Sue: Their Story, at The Blank Theatre in Hollywood, CA.
