Alumnus Making Impact as Innovative Professor
CSU Stanislaus alumnus S. Steve Arounsack has returned to his alma mater as an anthropology professor, and he's quickly making a name for himself through innovative research in which he uses digital media to document and tell stories of different cultures.
Arounsack, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at CSU Stanislaus, is the lead researcher on a team that recently received a $250,000 grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to support the creation of the Keck Visual Anthropology Lab, where faculty and students will use digital media to tell the stories of various Central Valley cultures.

Make Plans to Attend Vines on March 14
Vines, the premier fine food, wine and brew tasting experience, returns to CSU Stanislaus on Thursday, March 14. At Vines, the primary fundraiser for the CSU Stanislaus Alumni Association, alumni and their friends gather to enjoy great wines and beers, and sample delicious cuisine prepared by the area’s hottest chefs. This year’s theme is “A Night of Stars,” and guests will definitely get star treatment, including red carpet photos.

Alumnae Help Stockton Homeless Through Education
Sara Garfield has been helping children from homeless families find a quality education for two decades. And from the beginning, the CSU Stanislaus professor emerita has been doing it with teaching talent culled from the university.
Stockton's Transitional Learning Center for Homeless Children — or one.TLC, part of the San Joaquin County Office of Education's "one." alternative education program — opened under Garfield's direction in 1992. Since then, the school has helped more than 7,500 homeless children transition into the public education system.

Decades Later, Two Alumni Begin New Life Together
Jim Waite ('73, B.A. English) and Denise Genovese ('74, B.A. English) were close friends who became sweethearts while attending CSU Stanislaus. After graduation, they went their separate ways and embarked on their separate lives.
They were out of touch for 35 years before Waite, now single and living in Colorado, found Genovese on Facebook. She was widowed and still living in California, and the two began communicating regularly.
