The $16.1 million project covers 24 acres in the northeast corner of the CSU Stanislaus campus at the corner of Geer Road and Christoffersen Parkway.
CSU Stanislaus students overwhelmingly approved a referendum in May 2006 to fund construction of the new complex. The new state-of-the-art fitness and recreation facilities will support unparalleled student, intramural, and athletic programs. Construction began in November 2007 on the project that features an 18,500 square-foot fitness center, track and soccer field with stadium seating, press box, restrooms, parking, and landscaping.
The Fitness Center features an impressive architectural basilican form design. Lead architect Thomas Gordon Smith is a recognized international leader in contemporary developments of classical architecture. Included in the Center is a fitness room with workout equipment, aerobic workout space, locker rooms, and a multi-purpose court for student use.
Intramural fields are lighted for expanded recreation hours, a first at CSU Stanislaus where participation has increased dramatically with the addition of improved student-generated recreation programs. The all-weather track and soccer stadium gives the University a competitive facility for both day and evening games and meets. |
