Susan W. Goodwyn, Professor of Psychology at California State University, Stanislaus, began her study of child language development at the University of London where she completed a Masters of Science with First Honors under the mentorship of the late Dr. Richard Cromer, London Medical Research Council. She continued her training and earned her Ph.D. as a Developmental Psychologist at the University of California, Davis. In addition to her 14-year collaboration with Dr. Acredolo, Dr. Goodwyn has also been the recipient of several University grants to investigate parenting strategies and has served as Project Director for a Kellogg Public Service Research and Dissemination Grant that investigated maternal characteristics as they relate to child defiance and compliance behaviors. While her publications in leading child development journals have focused on language and cognitive development, her applied work has focused on parent-child interactions. To this end she has conducted numerous workshops and support groups for parents of young children and adolescents.
